Fishing for Whiting in Port St. Joe

Whiting are available year-round in the Port St. Joe area.  Anglers will usually have more success fishing for whiting in the surf off of nearby Cape San Blas than in St. Joseph Bay.  Whiting are one of the most common types of fish to catch in the surf and they can be caught year-round in this area.  Most beach anglers will target whiting with a piece of shrimp.

Fishing for Spanish Mackerel in Port St. Joe

The Port St. Joe area offers good fishing for spanish mackerel from March through October.  Spanish mackerel are found inshore, nearshore and offshore.  Deep grass beds and reefs are good spots to target these fish.

Fishing for Sheepshead in Port St. Joe

Anglers target sheepshead year-round in the Port St. Joe area.  Sheepshead are often found around bridges, pilings, oyster bars and nearshore over bottom structure and artificial reefs.  Anglers typically use fiddler crabs and live shrimp with small hooks for sheepshead.

Fishing for Pompano in Port St. Joe

Anglers love when pompano come back into this area every spring.  Pompano usually show up at the end of March or early April and the fishing is usually very good for the first few weeks of April.  Once the water temperature reaches the 68 to 72 degree range, you’ll usually see the heaviest spring push of fish.
