Helpful turkey brood data received

A record number of people this year took the time to report sightings of turkey hens and their young to the state Division of Fisheries and Wildlife.

“Response from the public was excellent,” said Jim Cardoza, the state’s turkey project leader. “More participation from many people reporting brood sightings results in better information for the agency.”

About 350 brood surveys — the most ever — were turned in to MassWildlife for reporting sightings from June through August. The surveys are

Survey says: Re-nesting efforts pay off for turkeys

A record 350 turkey brood surveys were sent in by the public, according to Jim Cordoza, MassWildlife’s Turkey Project Leader.Brood surveys are one way biologists assess the number of young that are added into the population. “Calculations show that this year’s hatch was higher than last year,” Cardoza said. “What is interesting about this season’s information is that it appears that the higher hatch is the result of re-nesting.”

Sportsmen to take stance on proposed wind turbines in Md.

Hunters increase county deer kill

Hunting, fishing licenses on sale

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife now is selling 2008 Hunting and Fishing licenses online, through its 200 statewide agents and at its Augusta office.
