Many special deer taken this season

As the 2007 Indiana Deer Hunting season winds down, ending on January 6, 2008, there were many special deer taken. A trophy is in the eye of the hunter and to the young hunters pictured, each has taken a trophy animal.

Some of these 4 and 6 point bucks will become head mounts to be displayed on the young hunter’s wall and even a doe or two may attain this status, these are indeed trophies.

Deer harvest increases

Area deer hunters killed more antlered bucks during this year’s firearms season than in 2006, according to a tabulation of deer checked at Ernie Borntrager’s Travel Tender, my local check-in station.  Not only did hunters kill more antlered deer, bucks with horns accounted for a higher percentage of the total kill than last year.
