A Flathead Valley man says wolves killed 1 of his hunting dogs and severely wounded another during a recent mountain lion hunt west of Kalispell.  Joe Kerney said he was hunting on New Year’s Eve

Mountain lion hunting closes in many districts

The hunting of all female mountain lions in southwestern Montana hunting districts 312 and 393, which include portions of Gallatin, Park and Meagher counties, closed Sunday.

The hunting of all mountain lions in southwestern Montana hunting district 331, which includes portions of Beaverhead, Silver Bow and Madison counties, closed Monday.

Majority likes wolf hunting

Last week’s Question of the Week asked readers whether Montana should have a wolf-hunting season starting next year. A majority — but not a huge one — said yes.

Among 471 responses to this unscientific survey, 253 favored such a hunt, while 218 were opposed.
