Fishing for flounder is popular in St. Joseph Bay. Flounder can be caught throughout the year. Most anglers fish on the bottom with bull minnows, pinfish and shrimp, although, bull minnows are considered the top bait by most anglers.

Mahi mahi are available in the offshore waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Most of the deep sea fishing charters will target mahi mahi. Anglers like to troll for mahi mahi, but once they get one fish on, it is common to have another rod ready to cast because more fish will often follow the fish back to the boat.
Cobia migrate through the Port St. Joe area in the spring. March through May provides some of the best fishing opportunities for cobia. Anglers usually sight fish cobia with live bait rigs, but they will hit artificial lures as well.

Port St. Joe offers some excellent fishing for speckled trout. These fish are congregated in the St. Joseph Bay and there are lots of them to catch. The bay has tons of grass flats in 2 to 3 feet of water that often holds schools of speckled trout. The bay keeps the waters fairly calm most of the time, which allows anglers to get out and fish these grass flats in bay boats, smaller flats boats and even in kayaks.
